Commentary: Rosie O’Donnell

I rosie.jpghave a difficult time understanding people that attack Rosie or any celebrity that uses their media attention to spotlight important issues. Whether or not we agree with their stand on an issue is irrelevant. Whats more important is that when celebrities are brave enough to publicly state their opinions on sensitive topics, important discussions are sparked throughout the world.

For those of us that are sick to death of hearing about the latest Lindsey, Brittany, Nicole, Paris, Amy or Tartlett VonCelebrat’s umpteenth visit to resorthab, it is refreshing to read about celebrities that admit their imperfections and use their status to bring attention to worthy topics.
I don’t always agree with their opinions but at least they have the courage to have an opinion. I wonder how many of us would have the nerve to take a stand on something we passionately believed in if we knew that literally thousands of people would attack not just the opinion itself but our personage, our credibility, intelligence, and on and on.
In our current political climate speaking ones mind takes courage, and in the current celebrity obsessed media climate it is so refreshing to listen to celebrities speak about something more important than what designer made their fav gown, shoes, handbag, or tiny dog.
Rosie O’Donnell is a brave, heroic woman that lives her life openly, honestly, and makes no apologies for who she is. I would rather young girls follow her example than to follow the previously named “train wrecks” that teach young woman that using drugs, behaving promiscuously, getting drunk and waisting away ones life and talents is cool socially except able behavior.
