Former Secretary of Defense, National Security Advisor, Former Secretary of State endorsed Barak Obama

In a shocking announcement Sunday on Meet The Press Former Secretary of State, Former Secretary of Defense, National Security Adviser, and life long Republican; General Colin Powell endorsed Barrack Obama for President of the United States.
General Powell prefaced his announcement with clear and decisive reasons for why he would be voting for Obama over his friend, colleague, and Republican ally of 25 years, John McCain.
The first reason Powell stated…”I looked at which one of the
two gentlemen could deal with the financial crisis in a decisive, and immediate nature. When discussing this crisis with Senator McCain I’ve seen that he’s unsure, and seems to go back and forth on how he would deal with the crisis. Obama on the other hand has shown a kind of fervor for gathering all the information…consulting experts in both parties on the issue.. deriving a certain, and comprehensive plan on how he would handle the financial crisis; so that we can get America back on track, and instill confidence in our position… in a global financial market.”
Secondly Powell states,” I was very disappointed in Senator McCain’s choosing Sarah Palin for Vice President, while she is a successful lady, and her accomplishments are admirable, I don’t believe she is ready to step in and be President of the United States. I believe she was chosen to satisfy the extreme right within the party, our party has gone increasingly further to the right, and I am disappointed with that.”
The third reason General Powell gave for not choosing his friend John McCain was his “disappointment in the political tactics his campaign is using.” Attempting to make the public fearful of Senator Obama by “suggesting he has associations with terrorists, and the suggestion that he is a Muslim.”
Powell’s response, “The correct answer is its not true Senator Obama is a Christian he’s always been christian. I have heard senior members within my party attempting to make that link… that Obama is a Muslim, and a terrorist…Its untrue, and it has no place in American Politics.”
Powell responded unequivocally that these allegations were “offensive, and irrelevant..an attempt to distract the American people away from the issues that are plaguing the U.S. at this time.”
General Powell stated that McCain’s campaign seems to be catering to a Republican party that “continues to move further, and further to the right…narrowing itself, and leaving a lot of people within the party behind.”
Many key people within the republican party, as well as right-winged pundits have come out strongly against John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin for V.P.
Putting this woman in position to make decisions on foreign policy, on military issues, and on crucial economic decisions when she is clearly unprepared, unfit, and far too inexperienced to handle the position;
makes many question John McCain’s judgment. ” It was an irresponsible move, and a purely politically motivated attempt to cater to the extreme right within the party.”
What are undecided voters, and the majority in the middle of the two extreme polarized factions of the two-party dominate system, supposed to think; when key figures within the party are openly questioning the judgment of their candidate?
Powell’s decision to endorse Obama is a profound statement on both campaigns…
General Colin Powell was one of the most influential voices within the Bush administration, representing the administration before the United Nations, and a pinnacle architect of the, “War on Terror”.
Despite being a close personal friend of John McCain, and a lifelong republican; General Powell chooses to endorse Obama! If a person inside your own party, and an insider to the current presidents administration doesn’t feel confident in your ability to unify, and lead our nation why should the American people? A man that 3 PRESIDENTS have ENTRUSTED with the SECURITY OF OUR NATION, is obviously someone the American people should listen to as well!
Mr. Powell’s willingness to jump party lines, deserting his own party, and risking ridicule, and criticism from his closest ally’s and friends; has to say something about how confident he is in Obama’s abilities to lead our nation during what many will arguably agree, is one of the most difficult times in our nations history.
Former Secretary of Defense, National Security Adviser, Former Secretary of State, lifelong Republican, General Colin Powell’s opinion of Barrack Hussein Obama: “The thing that has impressed me most about Obama is his ability to reach across lines of ethnicity, racial lines, gender lines, and generational lines, and truly inspire, motivate, and unify the people. I think that’s exactly what this country needs right now, and that is why I will be voting for Barack Obama.”

In the 80’s we were told never to trust anyone who made less than 30,000 a year; do you remember this? Do you remember that it was seemingly cool to be a Republican affiliate because Alex P. Keaton was one. He was the rebel in his family that brought a voice of reason to their hippie ideals and mayhem. Conservatives denounced the New Coke and started buying the old formula, marketed directly to them, they even called it classic. It should have been called Conservative Coke. Sales would have went through the roof as we opened bottles, squaring the knots on our hand knit, square bottom ties. So, here we are, some 20 years later, and I have never felt so disenfranchised from my selected party as I have been in the last two months. This has been two years in the making, halfway through my first five years as an educator, an outsider in my field because I still, I still want to be Alex P. Keaton. This may not have the savvy arguments and citations that I have seen in other posts, but. . .I couldn’t sit by any longer and read my friends getting raked across the coals for speaking their convictions. Silence in this forum is passive acceptance as it is in all others. I applaud Billy, Kelly, Kris, Jenny, and others as they have made their voices known. Now, I am making my known. On November 4th, I will be casting my ballot for Obama. . .hoooohah!
It’s time for a change.
